Down at the Sea Hotel is a song written by two-time Grammy nominee
Greg Brown, whose career spans two decades and more than a dozen critically
acclaimed albums. It is also a story, exquisitely illustrated by acclaimed
Canadian illustrator Mireille Levert. Levert, a two-time winner of the
Governor General's Literature Award and recent finalist for the Marilyn
Baillie Picture Book Award, also created the CD cover art.
Down at the Sea Hotel is also a welcome treat for parents weary of
standard children's music. In addition to its title track the album also
features 13 lullabies written by some of the 20th century's most
celebrated songwriters (Neil Young, Bruce Cockburn, Carole King, Don Henley, Steve Earle, Nanci
Griffith,Tom Waits, etc.), whose songs are performed by artists signed by the
prestigious Minnesota roots music label Red House Records, including Guy
Davis, Lucy Kaplansky, John Gorka, Eliza Gilkyson, The Wailin' Jennys and
Lynn Miles.
