A great performance last night at Tilly's in Canberra on the first night of the Australian tour. Bruce seemed much more relaxed than at the last concert here back in 1999. Right from the start, the playing was clear and powerful and the singing was lyrical. The instrumental work displayed a much stronger jazz influence than I remember from previous visits.
It was an emotionally engaging performance of superb musicianship delivering lyrics which touched the whole range of human life. Hard to pick a highlight, but possibly the version of World Of Wonders — both in its presentation and the tone in which it was sung. [This song] contained a statement of his basic religious faith: despite the horrors and pain of the world, it is still full of wonders to be lived and enjoyed and praised.
