(#1) Bruce's record company: True North

True North

Located at 260 Richmond Street West, #501.

True North is the record company in Canada that has been Bruce Cockburn's home since his first solo album. It is run by Bernie Finkelstein, Bruce's manager. Bernie's first exposure to Bruce was when The Children (the band Bruce played in at the time) opened for The Lovin' Spoonful in Toronto in December 1966. Later he saw Bruce do a solo show at The Purple Onion (see entry #12).

Bernie was impressed by what he saw and when he formed True North Records in early 1970, Bruce was the first artist signed. The offices of True North have been in several locations since its formation. Please remember that True North is a place of business, so if you do visit please be courteous and don't wear out your welcome. The reception area has some gold records on the wall that have been awarded to Bruce and other True North artists.
